Court hears testimony on New Moon of Iyyar 5768

On the 2nd of Iyyar, 5768, a court of ordained judges convened at Be'er Sheva 8, Jerusalem, and received testimony on the matter of the new moon (the "molad") which took place at twilight on the 1st of Iyyar.

Per the halacha, if the Rosh Chodesh (the New Month) were to be set according to eye witness testimony, Rosh Chodesh would be on the 2nd of Iyyar, and not on the 1st of Iyyar.

The Court decided not to bring division in the nation in setting Rosh Chodesh, and therefore set Rosh Chodesh on the 1st of Iyyar.

Receiving this testimony is a process which the Court will do from now going forward, G-d willing, on a permanent basis.

G-d willing, when awareness of the need to receive testimony for setting Rosh Chodesh will enter the hearts of our nation, among other things following this activity, we will begin to implement this halacha in action.

It should be noted that the calendar which Hillel the 2nd set has an accumulated deviation which in our time reaches a critical mass in the coming years, causing a lack of observance of the Torah commandment that Passover be in the spring month, and that Succot be near the fall equinox. This activity is done in order to ready the hearts for requested necessary changes for halacha in the manner of setting the holidays. Click here to see the Hebrew version
